Int’ Investment Seen Bright Future for Al Profile Market in China

Three years ago, INDALEX, the third largest aluminium company in the U.S.A, successfully bought 26.6% shares of Asia Aluminium. The two industry giants work together to invest 0.2 billion to buy Nanhua and Hongjia Aluminium factories in Nanhai, the famous aluminium city in China. Later after that, Asia Aluminium bought another three factories including Xinya, Fanya and Zhongya. At the same time, professional management companies from Japan participated in managing Jianmei Aluminium. The development of production base in China was being enhanced. A non-ferrous metal industrial zone as well as an international non-ferrous exhibition and trading centre will be built in Nanhai, Foshan.

President of INDALEX, Mr. Mark Emerry believed that China will be a big production and consumption country in the future global aluminium profile market. After entering the WTO, the trade barriers have reduced a lot.

China will be quite competitive in market advantage and lower production cost. To get a part in mainland China, a market with great potentialities, the best choice is to set up production bases.

But General Manager of WEGOMA GmbH, Mr. Liu Haitao admitted when being interviewed that the major usage of Chinese aluminium is on building profile instead of industrial profile.

In overseas, the industrial profile occupies 70% of the whole aluminium profile market, while in China the share is only 10%.

"At present, China needs to speed up the production of industrial profile as the inquiry space is huge," said Mr.

Liu Haitao," For example, the Chinese machinery production factories often find it a headache to find suitable industrial aluminium profile for their machines. Most factories designed their new products according to the available profiles rather than choosing the right profiles to fit their products. This has greatly increased the production cost of the factories."

Mr. Liu Haitao said, at present China mainly import the industrial profile from abroad. Although the price has increased by dozens or even several hundred, suitable profile for their machines can be found. The main reason is that in abroad the production of industrial profile has its own "Industrial Standard System", according to which the profile is produced strictly all the same, like a monitor that can be used in every computer.

Mr. Liu Haitao also admitted that the present aluminium profile market in China is not reasonable. For example, for the windows and doors in abroad, only 20% uses aluminium profiles.

Mostly they use PVC steel plastic materials. But in China the figure is 60%, with PVC accounting for only 1%. This is one of the reasons for short supply of industrial aluminium profiles.
